Li Keqiang and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth meet with reporters
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Thai Prime Minister Prayuth at the Prime Minister's Office in Bangkok on the morning of November 5 local time.
The prime ministers of the two countries made positive comments on the new achievements made in Sino-Thai cooperation. Li Keqiang said that Thailand is a good friend and partner of China's equality and mutual benefit. The two sides have strong complementary advantages and great potential for cooperation. The cooperation between China and Thailand, like the long-tailed ship sailing on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, is in the same boat, making rapid progress and moving steadily and far away. We are willing to make joint efforts with Thailand to deepen good-neighborly and friendly relations, cooperate to meet challenges, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
The two sides agreed to strengthen connectivity and cooperation to promote the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Thailand's "Eastern Economic Corridor" (EEC) better docking. We will speed up the construction of the China-Thailand railway and deepen cooperation in economy and trade, e-commerce, smart cities, law enforcement and security. The two sides are willing to maintain exchanges and share experiences on issues such as poverty alleviation and development, so as to work for the well-being of the two peoples.
Li Keqiang pointed out: a major outcome of this series of East Asian cooperation leaders' meetings is to basically conclude the (RCEP) negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and then through the joint efforts of all parties. It will become a free trade zone with the largest population, the most diverse members and the greatest development potential in the world. This sends a strong signal to the world that multilateralism and free trade are upheld. We are confident that the agreement will be signed next year and hope that all parties will accelerate the push for the landing of RCEP so that the people of the participating countries will benefit as soon as possible.
On the (COC) consultation on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, Li Keqiang said that COC is a more substantive upgrade based on the Declaration of Conduct of parties in the South China Sea, and positive progress is being made in the consultations. We are willing to make joint efforts with the countries in the relevant regions to make important contributions to the early conclusion of the COC and to jointly safeguard lasting peace and tranquillity in the South China Sea.
Xiao Jie took part in the event.
