The ninth meeting of the Joint Committee of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor held in Islamabad with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to meet with members of the Chinese delegation
Xinhua News Agency, Islamabad, 5 Nov (Reporter Liu Tian Jiang Chao) the Ninth meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (hereinafter referred to as "the Joint Committee") was held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 5 November. About 200 representatives from governments, financial institutions and enterprises of China and Pakistan attended the meeting.
In his speech, Bakhtiar, chairman of the Pakistani side of the Joint Commission and minister of planning, development and reform of Pakistan, said that 2019 is of great significance to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (hereinafter referred to as the Corridor). During this period, the corridor has yielded a number of landmark results. Some other projects will be completed by the end of this year.
He said that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has visited China many times, had in-depth exchanges with Chinese leaders, and expanded and strengthened cooperation with China in the fields of agriculture, industry, and social and livelihood development. In order to promote the construction of the corridor project, the Pakistani government has set up the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Bureau, which will provide a unified window service for corridor-related affairs, so as to speed up the construction of the corridor project and solve the "bottleneck" problem in the construction.
Ning Jizhe, chairman of the Chinese side of the Joint Commission and deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, pointed out at the joint committee meeting that President Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, and Imran Khan, prime ministers, have reached important consensus on cooperation between the two countries in various fields. It points out the direction for the development of bilateral relations in the next stage. The two sides have frequent high-level exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation has been continuously expanded and deepened.
Ning Jizhe said that thanks to the joint efforts of China and Pakistan, the corridor has achieved a series of remarkable results in just a few years. At present, the corridor has entered a new stage of high-quality development. China will conscientiously implement the important consensus between the leaders of the two countries, continue to strengthen docking with Pakistan, deepen mutual trust, promote the corridor to achieve more practical results, achieve high-quality development, and jointly build a closer China-Pakistan community of shared future in the new era.
At the meeting on the same day, the Joint Commission's working groups on energy, transport infrastructure, industrial cooperation, the port of Gwadar, and the people's livelihood conducted separate reports and full exchanges on their respective work, and the two sides reached a series of important consensus.
After the meeting, China and Pakistan signed the minutes of the joint committee meeting and signed and exchanged three cooperation documents on health care, youth exchanges and the construction of the port of Gwadar. The completion ceremony of the Peshawar-Karachi Expressway (Sukur-Multan section), the largest transport infrastructure project in the corridor, was also held at the scene.
On the morning of the 5th, Imran Khan met with Ning Jizhe and some members of the Chinese delegation at the Prime Minister's Office.
