The United States officially confirms the equivalence of the regulatory system for Chinese catfish products exported to the United States
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, November 6-A spokesman for the General Administration of Customs said that on November 5, 2019, the US "Federal Chronicle" announced the final rules for the export of Chinese catfish to the United States, confirming that China's catfish regulatory system is equivalent to that of the United States. China is one of only three countries in the world listed as eligible to continue exporting catfish to the United States. Prior to this, China's catfish regulatory system has successfully passed the U. S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspection Bureau of the document audit and on-site verification.
In December 2015, the United States issued the compulsory Inspection Regulation on Catfish and its products, which stipulates that exporting countries must exercise equivalent supervision over catfish exported to the United States with reference to the US regulatory system, otherwise they will be disqualified for export to the United States. Since the promulgation of the regulation, the Chinese Customs has held consultations with the United States Department of Agriculture for many times, and has provided the United States with documents and audit materials three times and received two on-the-spot inspections by the United States. As a result, on the one hand, it promotes the United States to prolong the transition period of laws and regulations, reduce unreasonable evaluation projects, and reduce trade costs; On the other hand, guide export enterprises to improve the quality and safety management system in accordance with the requirements of laws and regulations, improve the level of self-inspection and self-control, and ensure that export products meet the requirements. The United States is the largest export market of catfish products in China, accounting for more than 90% of the total export of catfish in China. This time, the United States confirms that the regulatory system of catfish products exported to the United States is equivalent, which will have a positive impact on the trade of aquatic products exported to the United States.
