Xinhua News Agency, Urumqi, November 7 (Reporter Pan Ying) since the establishment of the science and technology ombudsman system, we have promoted new technologies, introduced new varieties, and guided poor households to join innovation and entrepreneurship projects. More and more agricultural science and technology commissioners in Xinjiang are sinking at the grass-roots level to do practical work for rural areas, especially in poor areas, so that farmers can benefit from it.

The reporter recently learned from the Department of Science and Technology of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region that the Xinjiang Science and Technology Commissioner has expanded to 87 counties, cities and districts in 13 prefectures and cities (except Karamay), and has achieved full coverage of poor villages in 22 deeply poor counties in four prefectures and prefectures in southern Xinjiang. It provides strong scientific and technological support for winning the battle to get rid of poverty.

According to the statistics of the Department of Science and Technology of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region, so far, more than 8000 science and technology commissioners in Xinjiang have promoted a total of 1824 new technologies, introduced 1925 new varieties, and 553 people have led or established agricultural enterprises or set up economic cooperation organizations and professional associations. Nearly 460000 farmers directly participated in the science and technology ombudsman project, with an increase of 340000 farmers. 2.71 million farmers were trained, 1.3 million technical materials were distributed, and 109000 people were placed in employment.

Xinjiang launched the pilot work of the science and technology ombudsman system in 2002, and began to implement the science and technology ombudsman system in Xinjiang in 2007. In recent years, through the continuous improvement of the science and technology ombudsman system and policy environment, two-way selection and accurate docking, market-oriented incentive mechanism and other innovative measures have been launched, and continue to increase financial investment. Of this total, the financial investment in 2018 alone reached 20 million yuan.

The Department of Science and Technology of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region proposed that in the future, efforts will be made to achieve full coverage of science and technology ombudsmen in 35 poor counties in Xinjiang, and at the same time, they will continue to tilt to the four prefectures in southern Xinjiang, and actively explore ways to support innovative and entrepreneurial projects for science and technology. We will encourage more agricultural science and technology ombudsmen to go, stay, be able to handle things, and be able to benefit from them.
