President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Greece from November 10 to 12 at the invitation of President Pavloplos of the Greek Republic. In an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters in Athens a few days ago, Zhang Qiyue, Chinese ambassador to Greece, said that the visit was a "look back" on Sino-Greek relations, "another promotion" and "another voyage." Sino-Greek relations have become models of peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between countries of different scales, systems and cultures.
Zhang Qiyue said: China and Greece are both ancient civilizations and have a far-reaching impact on human civilization and progress, and the civilization heritage of the two countries and the profound friendly feelings between the two peoples have laid a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, especially since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership in 2006, China and Greece have always respected, trusted, understood and supported each other, and friendly and cooperative relations have always developed healthily and continuously coruscated with new vigor and vitality.
She pointed out: although the political systems and national sizes and cultural traditions of China and Greece are different, the two sides are highly consistent in safeguarding world peace and realizing common development. There are identical or similar positions on major issues such as free trade and multilateralism.
Greece is an early EU country that signed with China an intergovernmental cooperation document on the co-construction of "Belt and Road Initiative." In April this year, Greece became a full member of the China-CEE Cooperation Mechanism, expanding "16 / 1 cooperation" to "17 / 1 cooperation."
In this regard, Zhang Qiyue said: the "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative and "17001 cooperation" are important platforms and hands for promoting the development of Sino-Greek relations. Greece is committed to the development strategy of building a regional connectivity hub, which is highly consistent with the "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative and the purpose of the "17001 cooperation" mechanism.
She said: taking the China-Europe Land and Sea Express Line as an example, some containers transported from Asia and other places to Europe can be transferred from the port of Piraeus in Greece to a special railway train, all the way north into the hinterland of Europe, covering many countries in Europe. The transportation time of goods is about 7 to 11 days less than that of the traditional Northwest European route, and the cost is greatly reduced. The "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative and the "17001 cooperation" are reviving and revitalizing Greece, the intersection of the Maritime Silk Road and the Land Silk Road.
Zhang Qiyue said: under the framework of jointly building "Belt and Road Initiative," China and Greece have continuously made new progress in cooperation in infrastructure, transportation, energy, communications, finance, and other fields. In particular, the cooperation between the two sides in the Bikang project has achieved good economic and social benefits, and has become a model of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between countries.
In recent years, China and Greece have had frequent people-to-people exchanges and dialogue among civilizations, the exchange of museums between the two countries has become the norm, literary and art groups have exchanged intensive visits and performances, colleges and universities and social organizations have frequently exchanged and interacted with each other, and the two countries have jointly initiated the Forum on Ancient Civilization. Zhang Qiyue held that people-to-people exchanges between China and Greece have always been laying a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations and adding glory to the joint construction of "Belt and Road Initiative" between the two countries.
Zhang Qiyue recalled that long before the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, some Greek shipowners broke the embargo and helped New China transport goods. In recent years, Greece has repeatedly helped the Chinese government withdraw Chinese citizens from war-torn or volatile countries. The Greek people have also been grateful for China's unwavering support during the Greek sovereign debt crisis. "this deep friendship of mutual trust and sharing weal and woe between the two peoples is an important pillar of the people's support for the vigorous development of people-to-people exchanges between China and Greece."
She said: this year, China is in a key year to build a well-off society in an all-round way and achieve the goal of the first century, while Greece has just emerged from the shadow of the debt crisis and the country's economic and social development has entered a new stage. Marked by President Xi Jinping's current visit to Greece, bilateral relations will open a new page.
Looking to the future, Zhang Qiyue said: under the framework of jointly building "Belt and Road Initiative" and advocating dialogue among civilizations, China and Greece will further play the role of various cooperation and exchange mechanisms and fully arouse the enthusiasm of all sectors of society in the two countries. To promote people-to-people exchanges to contribute more highlights to the relations between the two countries; We will continue to strengthen communication and exchanges with other ancient civilized countries on the platform of the Forum of Ancient Civilizations, jointly promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and fully tap the potential of tourism cooperation, especially to promote the opening of more direct flights. The two countries will also take the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games as an opportunity to strengthen sports cooperation and continue to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, research and innovation.
