The reporter learned from the National Health and Health Commission on the 8th that China attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with African countries in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. At present, the State Administration of traditional Chinese Medicine has signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation in the field of traditional medicine with six African countries, including Malawi, Tanzania, Comoros, Ghana, Ethiopia and Morocco, and has established a basic framework for intergovernmental cooperation. Exchanges and cooperation have been carried out in traditional medical laws and regulations, medical care, education and training, scientific research and development, industrial cooperation and so on.

It is understood that China and Africa have a long and extensive history of exchanges in the field of traditional medicine. The entry of traditional Chinese medicine into Africa can be traced back to Zheng he's voyage to the West. After the founding of New China, with the development of medical assistance to Africa, traditional Chinese medicine has been widely used in the African continent. Since 1963, Chinese medicine has followed Chinese medical teams to Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and other African countries. The efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine products in the prevention and control of all kinds of epidemic situation makes it an important drug for disease prevention and control in African countries.

From the point of view of different regions of the African continent, North African countries have frequent exchanges with China in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and so on were all early recipients of China's foreign aid medical teams. The acupuncture training cooperation project jointly carried out by China and it has been particularly welcomed and valued by North African countries, which has laid a good foundation for the training of local talents of traditional Chinese medicine.

East Africa is the highlight of the development of traditional Chinese medicine in Africa. The general health condition of the countries in East Africa is poor and the epidemic situation occurs frequently. Traditional Chinese medicine has played a unique role in the prevention and treatment of diseases in this region. In Tanzania, Comoros and Malawi, traditional Chinese medicine has led the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases such as AIDS and malaria, and achieved good results, of which the project in Tanzania has lasted for more than 20 years.

Although the development of traditional Chinese medicine in West Africa started late, but the foundation is good. On the one hand, the Confucius Institute established in West Africa has held many lectures on the culture of traditional Chinese medicine, which has provided a good environment for the development of traditional Chinese medicine in this region. On the other hand, traditional Chinese medicine played a huge role in combating the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2014, leaving a good reputation for traditional Chinese medicine in the region.

South Africa has a more developed economy, its modern medicine is ahead of the rest of Africa, there is more research on traditional medicine, and the acceptance of the industry is high. South Africa has given the policy guarantee of traditional Chinese medicine in the aspect of legislation, affirmed the legal status of acupuncture and moxibustion practitioners, and the Western Cape University has set up academic education in traditional Chinese medicine.
