Chinese enterprises invest in construction of Nigeria's first railway vehicle assembly plant
Xinhua News Agency, Nigeria, Kajiola, November 9 (Reporter Guo Jun) the first railway vehicle assembly plant in Nigeria, invested by China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (China Earth Group), was in Kagao, southwestern Nigeria, on the 9th. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in La Town.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nigerian Vice President Oshin Baggio said that the railway vehicle assembly plant project is of great significance to the modernization of Nigerian railways and the development of related industries. Upon commissioning, the assembly plant will assemble and produce railway vehicles, spare parts and maintenance equipment for modern railways, and is expected to export the relevant equipment to West Africa and the entire African continent in the future. The project is expected to create 5000 direct and indirect jobs and serve as a platform for the production and maintenance of indigenous railway vehicles in Nigeria.
Nigerian Transport Minister Amaeci said this is the first railway vehicle assembly plant project in Nigerian history. At the beginning of the assembly plant, the main assembly of railway freight cars and vehicles, after the improvement of production capacity, railway passenger cars and locomotives will be assembled, and the export of related equipment will be realized.
Li Yuan, economic and commercial counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, said that Chinese direct investment in Nigeria has grown rapidly in recent years, creating a large number of local jobs and boosting local economic development. China will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to increase investment in Nigeria, especially in manufacturing and agriculture.
According to Jiang Yigao, general manager of China Earth Group Nigeria, 500 railway trucks can be assembled each year at the initial stage after the assembly plant is put into production, and important processes such as welding, assembly, painting, drying and testing will be completed here. The construction of the assembly plant will help speed up the construction of the railway industry chain in Nigeria.
