Guangdong sets the total carbon emission quota at 465 million tons in 2019
Xinhua News Agency, Guangzhou, November 13 (Reporter Zhou Ying) the Guangdong Provincial Department of Ecological Environment reported at a news conference on the 13th that Guangdong's total carbon emission quota for 2019 was set at 465 million tons, up from 422 million tons in the previous year.
Hong Jianwu, director of the Department of Ecological Environment of Guangdong Province in response to climate change and exchange and cooperation, said that due to the expansion of the scope of emission control this year, the volume of carbon emissions newly included in emission control enterprises is relatively large, and the total amount of carbon emission quotas has been moderately increased. It can not only form a reasonable pressure for emission control enterprises to reduce emissions, but also meet the reasonable needs of low-carbon development and construction of major projects.
Since Guangdong launched the carbon emissions trading market in 2013, market participants have participated actively. So far, the trading volume of its carbon emission quota has reached 134 million tons, and the trading amount has reached 2.6 billion yuan. Among them, in 2018, Guangdong carbon emission quota trading volume reached 49.91 million tons, the trading amount reached 837 million yuan.
The good development of Guangdong's carbon market has attracted the attention of overseas investment institutions, the circular said. In 2018, foreign investment institutions traded 1.04 million tonnes of carbon emissions through cross-border renminbi trading, more than the combined transaction from 2014 to 2017.
According to the circular, the carbon market in Guangdong has achieved remarkable results in reducing emissions in 2018. Carbon emissions per unit of products in electric power, petrochemical, papermaking and civil aviation industries decreased by 0.7%, 2%, 1.2% and 3.1% compared with the same period last year.
