Chongqing proliferates and releases 500000 rare Fish in the Yangtze River

Nearly 500000 rare and endemic fish, including 22 national first-class protected wild animals, the Yangtze River Sturgeon, are released into the Yangtze River.
Jiang Huamin, senior aquatic engineer of Chongqing Jiangjin District Forestry Bureau, said that the rare fish released this time include 22 wild animals of national first-class protection, the Yangtze River Sturgeon, each weighing about one kilogram, and 22 national second-class protected wild animals, cochineal fish, according to Jiang Huamin, senior aquatic engineer of Jiangjin District Forestry Bureau of Chongqing. As well as Chongqing key protection wildlife rock original carp, the Yangtze River endemic species thick jaw bream, Chinese dace, macrofin, Chinese big thorn, and other 10 species of fish, a total of 500000. Jiang Huamin said: at present, the water temperature of the Yangtze River is appropriate, and it is the most suitable season for release in a year. After the release, the fish protection team will also supervise by the river for a week to increase the release survival rate.
Yao Weizhi, a professor at the Fisheries Resources and Environment Research Center of Southwest University, who preached at the release site, said that the release will be conducive to the recovery of rare and endemic fish stocks in the Chongqing section of the reserve and the improvement of the community structure of aquatic organisms. Increase biodiversity, purify water bodies, improve water quality, and raise people's awareness of ecological protection.
The relevant responsible person of the Chongqing Forestry Bureau said that Chongqing will continue to strengthen the protection of aquatic biological resources in the Yangtze River and severely crack down on illegal fishing, overfishing, illegal sand mining, and other activities.
There are 189 species of fish in the waters of the National Nature Reserve of rare and endemic fish in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, including three species of rare fish, including Sturgeon, white Sturgeon and rouge fish, which are listed in the national list of key protected animals and 66 species of fish endemic to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
