State General Administration of Sports: "26 measures" help Taiwan Sports circles to better share opportunities for mainland Development
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, 15 Nov (Reporter Yu Jia)-"our successful entry into the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games is to fully consider and actively respond to the aspirations and concerns of Taiwan's sports community." In a recent interview with Xinhua News Agency, the head of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Administration of Sports said: this shows the sincerity of the mainland's willingness to share opportunities for mainland sports development with Taiwan compatriots.
Baseball is Taiwan's first sport and is popular with local teenagers and people, the official said. At the beginning of this year, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and the Taiwan sports community proposed to the mainland that baseball should be included in the official events of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. The Chinese Olympic Committee attaches great importance to it and actively promotes communication and consultation with the Hangzhou Organizing Committee for Asia and the Olympic Council of Asia. In September this year, baseball was officially approved as an Asian Games event, venue selection, construction and other matters are in full swing.
This is only one of the specific actions of the mainland in continuously deepening cross-strait sports exchanges and cooperation. Among the newly issued "some measures on further promoting Economic and Cultural exchanges and Cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait" (abbreviated as "26 measures"), two practical measures have been put forward specifically to promote cross-strait sports exchanges and cooperation to create a new situation. It has been widely concerned and praised by the sports circles in Taiwan.
The official said that these Huitai sports measures are aimed at enabling Taiwan sports circles and Taiwan compatriots to enjoy the same treatment as the mainland to a wider extent and to a greater extent, share opportunities for the development of sports on the mainland, and deepen the integration and development of sports on both sides of the strait. We will play a positive role in promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
The mainland is actively preparing for major international sports events such as the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games, which provides a good opportunity for practical cooperation between the sports circles on both sides of the strait. In the "26 measures", it is proposed to "provide assistance for Taiwan athletes in preparing for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games."
The official said: Taiwan is located in the subtropics and lacks the training conditions for winter sports, and the mainland will take advantage of the opportunity to organize the Winter Olympic Games to open up venues and training resources to Taiwan. We will provide support and facilities for athletes to move to the ground for training and exchange competitions, help Taiwan improve its winter sports level, and strive to achieve good results at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
Among the "26 measures", the policy that Taiwan athletes can participate in relevant professional leagues on the mainland as internal aid has attracted particular attention. The official said the move was groundbreaking and would provide opportunities for more Taiwanese athletes to participate in professional leagues on the mainland. The development of Taiwanese athletes in the mainland can not only expand their personal sports careers, but also help to enhance the attention of mainland professional leagues and clubs on the island of Taiwan. The State General Administration of Sports will promote relevant associations and professional leagues to further formulate preferential policies, expand the opening of the league to Taiwan athletes, sports teams, and clubs, and provide more convenience for Taiwan sports colleagues to come to the mainland for development.
In fact, professional leagues such as mainland football, basketball, table tennis and go have been opened to Taiwan compatriots. As early as 2001-2003, Taiwan's New Wave Lions joined the CBA, and entered the playoffs in the 2001-2002 season, creating a good story of cross-strait sports exchanges and cooperation.
This season, in the Chinese Super League, Chinese League A Football League and Chinese Men's Basketball Professional League (CBA), four footballers and seven basketball players from Taiwan play for the relevant clubs. In the competitions sponsored by the China Table Tennis Association, 45 Taiwanese players joined and registered for 15 mainland clubs, while three table tennis teams, three go teams and one chess team from Taiwan took part in the national leagues in the mainland.
The "26 measures" also proposed that the mainland individual Sports Association may grant sports technical grade certificates to Taiwan compatriots. "this will attract more Taiwanese athletes to participate in events organized by the mainland." The official said that relevant departments have begun to revise the "measures for the Management of Technical grades of athletes," which are mainly applicable to mainland athletes, and the new measures are expected to be formally introduced early next year.
The official also said that the State General Administration of Sports is actively discussing with relevant departments on specific measures for sports colleges and universities to enroll Taiwan athletes separately, and welcomes Taiwan athletes to apply for admission to mainland sports colleges and universities. At present, according to the relevant measures issued by the Ministry of Education for the joint enrollment of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese students by ordinary colleges and universities, Beijing Sports University and other colleges and universities have set up a special enrollment plan for Taiwan, and 39 Taiwanese students are currently studying at the school.
