Jiangsu Nantong seized more than 1200 tons of oil products suspected of smuggling
Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, 16 Nov (Reporter Liu Weiwei) the reporter learned from Nantong Customs on the 16th that the customs has recently seized two cases of smuggled refined oil in the waters of the Yangtze River, and seized about 1248 tons of refined oil, worth about 6.5 million yuan.
On the evening of the 12th, the Anti-smuggling Branch of Nantong Customs, in conjunction with maritime affairs, border inspection, long voyage, and other departments, dispatched more than 30 police officers to inspect the waters of the Yangtze River from Haimen to Qidong in Nantong. In the early morning of the 13th, inspectors found that two oil tankers had shut down the AIS system in the main channel of the Yangtze River, acting suspiciously.
Law enforcement officers immediately asked the suspected ship to stop for inspection, the suspected ship after hearing the call, turned around in an attempt to escape. The two anti-smuggling boats immediately cooperated and intercepted two suspicious ships at the mouth of the north branch of the Yangtze River, arresting eight suspects.
After preliminary investigation, the oil products carried by the two ships were connected on the evening of the 12th on illegal sea-going ships of unknown registration in the waters downstream of the Chongqi Bridge in Nantong, trying to sell them to Nantong, Taizhou, and other places for profit. One of the ships was connected with about 760 tons and the other with about 488 tons.
At present, the Nantong Customs has filed a case for investigation, two smuggling ships have been detained, and eight suspects have been taken compulsory measures of criminal detention.
