"Nanshui" Runjing has received more than 5.2 billion water in Beijing in the past five years, benefiting more than 12 million people.
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, 16 Nov (Reporter Wei Mengjia) it has been nearly five years since the completion of the first phase of the middle route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project in December 2014. The reporter learned from the Beijing Municipal Water Bureau that up to now, Beijing has received a total of 5.203 billion cubic meters of water from the Danjiangkou Reservoir, and the direct beneficiary population of the city has exceeded 12 million. The water quality of "South Water" is always stable above Class II of the environmental quality standard of surface water.
Beijing is located at the end of the middle route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project. In order to maximize the use of "southern water", over the past few years, Beijing has used water scientifically in accordance with the principle of "saving, drinking, storing and replenishing". Of the 5.203 billion cubic meters of water entering Beijing, 3.488 billion cubic meters are used for water supply to waterworks, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the water entering Beijing. 623 million cubic meters are used to store river water to local large and medium-sized reservoirs such as Miyun, Huairou, Daning and the Ming Tombs, and the rest to replenish water to urban rivers and lakes and groundwater.
The person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Water Bureau said that entering the Beijing River has greatly increased the total amount of water resources in Beijing, improved the safety and security of urban water supply, and improved the water use conditions of urban residents. In the past five years, Beijing has transferred more than 1 billion cubic meters of water from the Danjiangkou Reservoir annually, and the per capita water resources in the city have increased from 100 cubic meters to 150 cubic meters. "South Water" has greatly alleviated the shortage of water resources in the capital. It has not only effectively improved the security of urban water supply, but also provided water support for key areas such as urban sub-centers and Daxing International Airport. At present, "South Water" has accounted for 70% of the total tap water supply in Beijing, and the scope of water supply basically covers the central urban area and some areas such as Daxing, Mentougou, Changping, Tongzhou and so on.
In addition, the "South Water" has also significantly increased the strategic reserve of water resources in the capital. After the river water enters Beijing, on the one hand, it is transported to Miyun Reservoir, an important water source in Beijing, so that the water quantity of the reservoir can be replenished. On the other hand, Beijing has also used "south water" to recharge groundwater. Since 2016, the groundwater level in the plain area has stopped falling and rising, and has maintained a steady and slow recovery trend, which has promoted the conservation and restoration of groundwater resources in Beijing.
