The reporter learned from the Construction Administration of the Middle Route Project of the South-to-North Water transfer Project that since the opening of the middle route project, the project has been running smoothly and the water supply has increased year by year. As of the 16th, the cumulative water transfer has exceeded 25.5 billion cubic meters, and the number of direct beneficiaries along the route has exceeded 58.59 million.

Monitoring data show that in the past five years, the water supply of the middle route of South-to-North Water transfer Project to Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Henan has increased year after year, and the benefit has exceeded expectations. At the beginning of this month, the middle route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project exceeded the task of transferring water from 2018 to 2019, with a cumulative water supply of 6.916 billion cubic meters, accounting for 117 percent of the planned water supply, and the water supply to the four provinces and cities exceeded the annual planned water allocation.

In a recent interview along the middle route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project, the reporter learned that since the operation of the middle route project, "South Water" has become the main source of water for more than 20 large and medium-sized cities in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Henan, and has significantly improved the drinking water quality of the people along the route. As a result, people in some areas bid farewell to high-fluorine water and brackish water.

According to the person in charge of the Construction Administration Bureau of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project, at present, "South Water" has accounted for 70 percent of the tap water supply in the main urban area of Beijing, and has become the water supply source for residents in 14 districts of Tianjin. 37 cities and counties in Henan also use "south water", of which more than 80% of the tap water in the central city of Zhengzhou is "south water". In Hebei, Shijiazhuang, Handan, Baoding, Hengshui and other cities accounted for more than 75% of the water supply in the main urban areas of Shijiazhuang, Handan, Baoding, Hengshui and other cities.

The water quality monitoring data show that in the past few years, the water quality of the middle route project has always been stable above Class II of the surface water environmental quality standard, and the proportion of Class I water quality section has reached about 80%.

In addition to water supply, the ecological benefits of the project are also very significant. In recent years, the middle route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project has replenished water to more than 30 rivers along the route, which has significantly increased the water volume of rivers and lakes. From 2018 to 2019, the Middle Route Project implemented the pilot project of groundwater recharge for the overexploitation and comprehensive treatment of rivers and lakes in North China, replenishing 1.39 billion cubic meters of water to the three pilot sections of the Hutuo River, Fuyang River and Nanjuma River. A 477 km long aquatic ecological zone has been formed, and the influence range of groundwater recharge has reached nearly 10 km on both sides of the river.
