More than an hour's drive north from Vientiane, the capital of Laos, leads to poorer mountainous areas. After another hour of bumpy mountain roads and dirt roads, we arrived at Bingsuo Village, Santong County, Vientiane City, located in the mountain depression.

The village has a total of 407 households and 2007 people, of which poor households (with an annual per capita net income of less than $700) account for 50 per cent of the village. The infrastructure here is poor, the road is difficult, drinking water is difficult, and there is a lack of irrigation facilities. However, the newly built village roads, houses and newly erected solar street lights indicate that Bingsuo Village will take off the hat of poverty. The village has become one of the villages of the East Asian Poverty reduction demonstration Cooperation Technical Assistance Project implemented by China in Laos, which has been implemented by the Guangxi Foreign Investment Poverty Alleviation Project Management Center since September 2017.

By the end of October, Luo Fengkuan, assistant director of the China-Laos Joint Project Management Office, had been working in Laos for four months. He watched a lot of changes take place in the village in recent months.

"look at that bridge. We thought it was dangerous when we came over. However, construction of the new bridge has already begun. " Pointing to a rickety wooden bridge, Luo Fengkuan told reporters that a modern bridge will be completed next May.

The village of Xingsuo is divided into two parts, east and west, and is currently connected only by this wooden bridge, which is no longer open to traffic. Villagers are looking forward to the new bridge to be built with assistance from China.

Tongrong Panmani, 57, is a native villager. She said that after the implementation of the poverty alleviation project in 2017, the village began to change and the roads were paved with asphalt.

"when the bridge is repaired, it will be more convenient to travel," Tongrong said. "I have registered to learn to grow corn and breed with the Chinese. Bingsuo Village cannot be lifted out of poverty without the help of China's poverty alleviation program."

Not only are the joint project teams working hard, but economic and trade cooperation between the two countries will also contribute to poverty reduction projects. Luo Fengkuan said that there are Chinese investors in the vicinity of the pig farm, the villagers planted corn, pig farms promised to buy all; Local women have fabric weaving skills, and the project team is also looking for a counterpart to sell their woven cloth to China. Another Chinese enterprise, which is also preparing to plant fruit trees in the mountains, has conducted field trips.

In addition to infrastructure construction and agro-technical training, poverty alleviation projects also include educational assistance to Bingsuo Village. The schools in Bingso Village include kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, with about 60 teachers and 550 students.

Xin Pengmifeng, a 44-year-old principal, pointed to several thatched cottages next to the school, saying that in the past, the dormitories of the students were built for them by their parents, one for two or three people, and the teachers' dormitories were built by themselves. Now the poverty alleviation project has built two rows of brick and tile houses with water and electricity for the school, and the living conditions have been greatly improved. Teachers and students are very grateful for this.

President Xin is also satisfied with the new playground. "now there will be sports every afternoon. This playground is very good. You can play basketball or rattan ball."

"as far as we are concerned, if the level of education is not improved, poverty will not be reduced," said President Xin. "China has a very high level of education and high level of science and technology, and the country will develop rapidly. The same is true in our country. We must make use of China's good experience. "
