The 10th informal meeting of China-ASEAN Defense Ministers held in Bangkok, Thailand
Xinhua News Agency, Bangkok, 17 Nov (Reporter Wang Jin Ming Dajun) the 10th informal meeting between China and ASEAN Defense Ministers was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on the morning of 17 November. The meeting was co-chaired by Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Bawai, who holds the rotating chair of ASEAN.
Wei Fenghe said: over the past year, China-ASEAN has actively implemented the consensus between the two sides, and defense and security cooperation has advanced steadily and achieved remarkable results. The two sides adhere to close interaction, make use of bilateral and multilateral occasions for in-depth communication, consolidate the foundation of mutual trust, adhere to mutually beneficial cooperation, hold two maritime joint performances and the first defense think tank exchange, and create a win-win situation. We will continue to treat each other in good faith, hold the first friendly exchanges between young and middle-aged officers, deeply plant the soil of friendship, persist in attaching importance to peace, effectively manage differences, actively promote cooperation, and safeguard the overall situation of peace.
Wei Fenghe said: at present, China's development has entered a new era, and ASEAN's development has entered a new stage. China will, as always, support the building of the ASEAN Community and the central position of ASEAN in regional cooperation. In the face of the great changes that have not taken place in the world in the past century, China-ASEAN should conform to the general trend, strengthen cooperation, normally carry out defense exchanges at all levels, and continue to hold joint performances at sea. We will continue to deepen cooperation in the fields of personnel training, equipment technology, disaster rescue and anti-terrorism and stability, join hands to maintain regional security and stability, and make positive contributions to promoting the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
Leaders of ASEAN defense departments spoke highly of the development of ASEAN-China relations, appreciated China's unremitting efforts to promote bilateral defense and security cooperation, expressed support for China's positive initiatives, and were willing to continue to strengthen communication and coordination with China. We will promote practical cooperation in defense and security and jointly safeguard regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
