Wang Yi meets Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
Xinhua News Agency, Nagoya, Japan, 23 Nov (Reporter Guo Dan Huayi) on 23 November local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting in Nagoya.
Wang Yi said: not long ago, President Xi Jinping and President Putin had very good strategic communication during the BRICS leaders' meeting, further enhanced mutual trust and friendship, and pointed out the direction for the next development of bilateral relations. Through the joint efforts of both sides, the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly, and the level of local cooperation has been significantly improved, handing over a satisfactory answer paper for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia this year. China is willing to work with Russia to carefully plan the exchange of high-level visits next year, jointly celebrate the 75th anniversary of the victory of World War II, hold a good year of scientific and technological innovation between China and Russia, and further enrich the connotation of Sino-Russian relations in the new era. In the face of the current international situation in which unilateralism is rampant and full of uncertainty, China and Russia have an important consensus on safeguarding multilateralism and maintaining international strategic stability. The two sides should further strengthen coordination and cooperation under the BRICS mechanism and other multilateral frameworks, more effectively safeguard multilateralism and the multilateral trading system, and contribute more Chinese and Russian forces to world peace and stability.
Lavrov said that Russia and China have very close relations, and the two countries have conducted efficient cooperation at the bilateral level and under multilateral frameworks such as the G20 and BRICS mechanisms. The Russian side is willing to continue close high-level exchanges with China and constantly deepen cooperation in various fields. There are many worrying factors in the current international situation. Russia advocates upholding the principles of equality, fairness and win-win results in international relations, and opposes a country's narrow rules that undermine recognized international rules. We are willing to continue to deepen strategic communication and cooperation with China on current major strategic issues.
The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and other international and regional issues of common concern.
