China Coast Guard makes full deployment to crack down on illegal sand mining at sea
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, 23 Nov (Reporter Liu Xin) the reporter learned a few days ago from the deployment meeting of the China Maritime Police Bureau to crack down on illegal sand mining at sea held in Beijing, that since the beginning of this year, the China Maritime Police Bureau has targeted illegal exploitation and transportation of sea sand at sea. We concentrated our efforts on carrying out special crackdowns and made every effort to promote the control of the sea sand problem. We have investigated and dealt with 220 sea sand cases (including 127 criminal cases), seized 277 ships of various types, 2.176 million tons of sea sand, and arrested 2483 people involved in the case.
The work deployment will analyze the current situation of illegal sand mining at sea, and make arrangements for the next step in jointly promoting the governance of the sea sand problem, requiring maritime police agencies at all levels to fully understand the significance of the management of the sea sand problem. We will further strengthen the supervision of law enforcement in key sea areas, strengthen the investigation and handling of illegal acts, cut off supply channels, carry out sustained crackdowns, focus on major and important cases, ensure strict management under high pressure, and take the initiative to strengthen cooperation with various sea-related departments. We will establish a regional cooperation mechanism, promote cooperation and linkage, achieve comprehensive management, effectively protect the marine ecological environment, and maintain the stability of public security at sea.
It is understood that in recent years, with the rapid development of China's infrastructure construction, the demand for domestic construction sand has been increasing, and some lawbreakers have illegally exploited, transported, and used sea sand. The use of sea sand which is not fully purified and the content of chloride ion exceeds the standard is used in the construction industry, which leads to the decline of the durability of house structure and brings great hidden danger to the living safety of the masses.
